Kant and the Claims of Taste by Paul Guyer

Book review

In the following chapters I will try to group the main tales relating to the hares and jackals, turtles and spiders. There is a certain type of stories (the ones in the image and likeness of which to some degree are written Kipling "Little Tales"), applying for an explanation of the origin of some of the animals or their characteristics. For example, we learn why the Hare short tail and long ears (according to one version, his ears lengthened due to the fact that many people Hare stroked on the head, admiring his ingenuity); why Spider flat body and he lives in the dark corners; why Parrot in the tail of bright red feathers, etc. That's why Hare a short tail:.. when handed out tails, was rain and Hare sitting at home. Instead, he sent himself by the tail of someone else. Snakes have no legs and no eyes at the Centipedes (believe it Swahili), because the latter, wanting to dance at the wedding and not having legs, lent them a snake. Snake gave legs to the condition that in exchange will receive at the time of Centipede eyes. But when Centipede returned from holiday, Snake refused to return to her eyes, so she still enjoys kicking Snake. It reminds us of the exchange between the feathers Chicken and parrots, which tell Benga.
